With over twenty-five years of research and design experience, Margaret Gilchrist Serrato has a special focus on creating high-performance working and learning environments. Margaret’s education in architecture, interior design and environmental psychology, enhanced by an MBA and a PhD in architecture, culture and behavior enables her to provide comprehensive and dynamic strategic planning for a wide range of clients. Her specialty is alternate workplace strategic planning.
Joe De Faria
Director of Property Management, CREIT Management
I’ve been in Property Management for 30 years managing commercial office portfolio’s in Toronto and S.W. Ontario. I’m currently employed at CREIT Management and oversee the day-to-day operation of the Toronto office Portfolio (approx. 1 Million Square feet). Our team's mission is to provide exceptional, responsive, high-quality, business accommodations to our valued tenants. This cannot be achieved without reliable technological tools such as Building Engines and exceptional hiring practices.
Art McCann
CIO, Highwoods Properties
Art’s primary goal is the development of Highwoods overall information technology strategy and aligning the Company’s technology investments with the overall business. A 20-year business technology veteran, Art was a technology consulting manager at McGladrey & Pullen before joining Highwoods in 2000, and prior to that, he was a network manager for a non-profit organization in Washington, DC. Art is a past board member on the Society for Information Management and serves on the board as the treasurer for the Quest International user group.
Amanda Schroeder
Operations & Training Manager, Lillibridge Health Services
Amanda Schroeder joined Lillibridge Healthcare Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ventas, in June 2014 as Operations & Training Manager. Ms. Schroeder is responsible for driving the strategic design, implementation and documentation of operational procedures to support the company’s efficient and highly effective real estate operations. The systems, processes and best practices contribute towards the achievement of the company’s operational goals and employee satisfaction. Prior to joining Lillibridge, Ms. Schroeder served as Property Operations Manager for Northwestern Memorial Hospital and spent 8 years in commercial property management with Hines in Chicago, IL.
Brendon Ford
Operations Manager, Lerner Enterprises
Brendon Ford has been in the engineering field since 2012 and in engineering management since 2014. Brendon began his career in suburban Maryland, then quickly excelled and became Director of Engineering for a private firm in Washington DC, and then was hand picked to join a family firm in Northern Virginia. Brendon has transitioned over 12 million square feet from Workspeed to Building Engines over the last five years and has recently certified a 475,000 square foot office building as LEED Platinum. Brendon is currently working to certify two existing buildings as LEED Gold with the help of his 29 person team.
Phil Mobley
Head of Research, Building Engines
Mr. Mobley has been a consultant to the commercial real estate industry for over a decade, telling stories with data that help building owners and managers better serve their customers. He is a prolific writer on industry topics and a frequent speaker at educational conferences. At Building Engines, he is leading efforts to capture and share new insights gleaned from operational and tenant sentiment metrics. Before joining Building Engines in early 2016, Mr. Mobley served as a vice president at Kingsley Associates, a boutique commercial real estate consulting firm, where he led a wide variety of survey research and benchmarking projects. He later founded Koine Communications, a research and marketing firm focused in part on commercial real estate. His career also includes time as an advisor at Deloitte Consulting, as well as consulting at a leading consumer products firm and a major health insurance provider. Mr. Mobley holds a B.A. in political science and an M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina.
Jody Saarmaa
VP Product Management, Building Engines
Ms. Saarmaa has over 25 years experience in high tech, spanning a broad range of industries including SaaS business applications, encryption, data security, international business management and advanced control systems. An executive and innovator with a passion for bringing new products to market, she built product management organzations at several Boston-area high-growth firms including Liquid Machines, High Street Partners and Active Control eXperts. She began her career at IBM where she held roles in software engineering, sales and product marketing. Ms. Saarmaa holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management with concentrations in Marketing and Finance and a BS in Computer Science and Economics from Duke University. Ms. Saarmaa is a long-time supporter of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, where she currently serves on the Board of Overseers.
Kyle Maikath
VP Client Success & Support
Mr. Maikath is in charge of the client support and services division. His primary focus is ensuring client satisfaction, but he also works closely with both the sales and development teams to collect market feedback and drive product direction. Prior to joining Building Engines, Mr. Maikath was a Technical Sales and Support Representative for MaxSea Marine Software, which provided bottom mapping software to commercial fishing boats and weather routing for large off shore yachts. He was an integral part in the company’s buyout. Mr. Maikath holds a B.A. from UVM and spent a year working for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Hawaii as an Observer, collecting data aboard the long-line tuna boats.
David Osborn
CEO, Building Engines
Mr. Osborn is a founder of the company and has over fifteen years experience working in early-stage companies within the technology sector. As CFO and VP of Operations at Milestone Systems, Inc., a venture funded start-up, he helped design and develop a multi-carrier desktop shipping system targeted at the small office and home office market. Prior to Building Engines, Mr. Osborn developed a remote Internet-based monitoring system for the residential real estate market known as "iWitness." Mr. Osborn also has over two decades of legal experience. He is currently a member of the Maine and Massachusetts Bar Associations and affiliated with a number of organizations with a primary focus in real estate.
Scott Sidman
CMO, Building Engines
Mr. Sidman has led Building Engines' expansion efforts since 2004. He oversees the company's marketing department and helps direct company strategy and product direction as well as managing a number of key client and partner relationships. Mr. Sidman is also the company's commercial real estate technology evangelist, speaking and writing regularly on the use of real estate technology to improve operations and management practices as well as creating and hosting the industry's first technology-focused podcast, CRE TechTalks.  Mr. Sidman brings a diverse entrepreneurial background with a focus on developing and implementing early and expansion stage go-to-market strategy as well as sales and marketing programs.  Prior to Building Engines, Mr. Sidman began his career working for Four Season's Hotels. He was a partner at Cedona Technologies, LLC where he led the company's business development efforts for their document management and media archival tools. He also founded Access Solutions International, a foreign trade consulting company and additionally co-founded and managed a Boston-based CRE services firm.
Toby Plewak

Mr. Mirkis has worked on enterprise software for more than two decades, spearheading innovative products that extract value and mine business opportunities out of complex data. At Building Engines, he manages analytical and mobile products which provide business intelligence and predictive analytics based on historical and operational data feeds. Prior to joining Building Engines, Mr. Mirkis worked in the financial industry concentrating on payment and risk mitigation solutions. His career also includes software design and consulting for healthcare services. Mr. Mirkis holds an MS in Electronics and an MBA from Babson College.
